Jane Austen’s gold and gem-set ring, previously unknown to scholars, will be offered in Sotheby’s London English Literature, History, Children’s Books and Illustrations sale on 10 July. After Austen’s death, the ring, estimated at £20/30,000, was passed to her beloved sister Cassandra and has remained in the Austen family for almost two centuries.
